Bucksport Marine Industrial Park

Overview

A.O. Hardee & Son, Inc. partnered with the Grand Strand Water and Sewer Authority to construct critical infrastructure for the new Bucksport Marine Industrial Park. This multi-faceted project included the development of marina facilities, roadways, and full utility services to support future industrial operations along the Intracoastal Waterway in Horry County, South Carolina.

Challenges

The project involved significant land and marine construction over an 85-acre site, requiring dredging operations, deep foundation work, and complex coordination of underground utilities. The construction team faced tight site constraints and environmental considerations while integrating stormwater systems and a specialized Vortechnic unit for water quality treatment.

Solution

A.O. Hardee performed 101,000 cubic yards of cut-to-fill earthwork, supplemented with 1,500 cubic yards of borrow material. The team installed nearly 3,000 linear feet of sanitary sewer with a pump station, 2,925 linear feet of waterline, and 670 linear feet of storm drainage. Marine construction included 12,000 cubic yards of dredging, 5,270 linear feet of cast-in-place concrete piles, and installation of a timber fender system, floating docks totaling 4,654 square feet, and a heavy-duty boat lift. Additional work included electrical systems and access roads to support the site’s functionality.

Result

The completed Bucksport Marine Industrial Park offers robust waterfront infrastructure to support industrial growth and maritime activity in the region. A.O. Hardee delivered a comprehensive solution that balanced heavy civil construction with marine expertise, setting the stage for long-term economic development along South Carolina’s coast.
