A.O. Hardee & Son, Inc. served as the lead contractor for the Design-Build delivery of Champions Boulevard Segment 2 in North Myrtle Beach. This comprehensive infrastructure project for the City included surveying, full design services, permitting, utility coordination, and complete roadway construction. The project not only extended a key urban connector but also improved access, utilities, and pedestrian infrastructure across the corridor.
The project involved navigating complex permitting requirements through multiple regulatory agencies, including SCDHEC, SCDOT, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for wetland fill. In addition to the environmental sensitivity, the project demanded extensive coordination with utility providers to relocate power transmission and distribution lines—without disrupting service to surrounding developments.
A.O. Hardee led the project from initial survey through final completion, overseeing the design and construction of roadway infrastructure, lighting, and underground utilities. The team handled 20 acres of clearing and over 45,000 cubic yards of excavation. Construction included the installation of 1,776 linear feet of storm drain pipe, 18 storm boxes, 21,314 linear feet of concrete curb, and over 32,000 square yards of base course. The project also included 3,570 tons of asphalt paving, 17,800 linear feet of communication conduits, and 280 linear feet of water and sewer casings.
The completed segment of Champions Boulevard enhances local mobility, supports future growth, and improves the utility and communications infrastructure in North Myrtle Beach. Through efficient coordination, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to design and construction, A.O. Hardee delivered a high-quality, community-focused infrastructure project—on time and in full compliance with all environmental and regulatory standards.
