A.O. Hardee & Son teamed up with the South Carolina Department of Transportation to upgrade a key section of SC Highway 707. The project widened a 9.53-mile stretch of this important road in Horry County to boost traffic flow, improve safety, and enhance mobility in one of the state’s fastest-growing areas.
This high-profile $55 million project required a lot of earthwork and environmental planning, while keeping traffic flowing through a busy area of South Carolina. With over 400,000 cubic yards of borrow material, nearly 10,000 feet of auger cast piles, and more than 91,000 feet of storm drainage pipe, the project’s size called for precise scheduling and close coordination with multiple groups.
A.O. Hardee handled everything from earthmoving to the final surface. Crews built over 72,000 square feet of sound barriers, installed 1,065 drainage structures, and laid down more than 54,000 square yards of sidewalk. They also added five new traffic signal systems to improve traffic flow and safety. The paving included 184,000 square yards of cement-stabilized base and 153,000 tons of asphalt.
The SC Highway 707 widening project greatly improved traffic flow and safety for locals, commuters, and businesses in the area. A.O. Hardee delivered a strong, high-capacity roadway that’s built to meet the future needs of this rapidly growing region. The project is a testament to our crews’ ability to handle large, complex transportation projects with skill and dependability.
